DAY 1: HANOI – NINH BINH “DRY HALONG BAY” (-/L/-)

Pick-up at hotel in Hanoi and drive to Ninh Binh, 92 km south of Hanoi and approximately 2.5 hours of driving. This is an area with many interesting sites, including Tam Coc (better known as Dry Halong) and it is also an important centre of Catholicism, where many churches can be seen among rice fields.

Visit Tam Coc. Limestone karsts rise from rice fields and winding streams. Enjoy the spectacular scenery during a leisurely boat ride in traditional local sampans paddling through “Three Caves” (“Tam Coc” in Vietnamese).

After lunch at a local restaurant, visit Bich Dong Pagoda and proceed to Hoa Lu to visit some temples of the Dinh and Le Dynasties.

DAY 2: NINH BINH – THAI BINH – HAI PHONG (B/L/-)

This morning, visit Phat Diem, located approximately an hour drive from Ninh Binh along a busy highway. In the area of Phat Diem, the scenery changes. You will see several churches of Chinese, Vietnamese and French colonial design, most famous of which is the intriguing Phat Diem Cathedral. This cathedral is the centre for Vietnamese Catholicism and one of 30 churches in the area built by French Jesuits. It is a blend of Chinese and Western styles and set in peaceful gardens with fantastic rock formations.

Proceed to Hai Phong with en route visit to Keo Pagoda in Thai Binh province. Upon arrival to Hai Phong, check into the hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Walk along Hai Phong’s main road where bustling street life, the Opera house and the flower market are highlights of this busy city.

DAY 3: HAI PHONG – HALONG CITY (B/L/-)

In the morning, have a short city tour of Hai Phong. Visit Du Hang pagoda and Hang Kenh communal house. Then drive to Halong City.

Arrive at the Halong tourist pier. After boarding the boat, start a 4-hour relaxing and wonderful cruise through World Nature Heritage Halong Bay, passing bizarre rock formations, such as Dinh Huong (the Incense Urn), Cho Da (the Stone Dog), islands with sandy beaches and Ga Choi (the Fighting Roosters) islets. You will discover Halong Bay, listed as a World Heritage of outstanding natural beauty, known in Vietnamese as “Dragon descending to the sea“.

A fresh seafood lunch is prepared and served during the boat cruise.

Back to the Halong tourist pier, pick-up and transfer to the hotel in Halong City. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

DAY 4: HALONG CITY – HANOI CRAFT VILLAGES – HANOI (B/L/-)

Start your journey towards Hanoi with en route visit to Dong Ho traditional block printing village. There are a few families left who still engage in this traditional craft. Other skilled and dedicated artisans have turned to producing paper offerings of all possible sizes and shapes. In fact, this craft can now be seen all over the village.

Drive on to visit Bat Trang traditional pottery village, situated approximately 15 km outside of Hanoi, surrounded by fertile farmland. Watch the artisans forming, painting and glazing their products, which are then baked for several days in huge kilns.

Upon arrival to Hanoi, drop off at your hotel or further transfer to Hanoi / Noi Bai Airport for departure at surcharge (accommodation in Hanoi is not included).

CANCELLATIONS

• Refunds will not be given for unused or cancelled services after the tour arrangements have commenced.

• FIT (Individuals): Cancellation charges are calculated from the day the written notification is received by the company or agent as a percentage of the net total tour price as shown plus any surcharges (e.g. ticketed air sectors, other penalties imposed by suppliers such as hotels):

• Between 29- 21 days before departure:  According to the costs incurred will be charged

• Between 20 days and 15 days prior to departure: 25% of package price

• Between 14 days and 8 days prior to departure: 50% of package price

• Between 07 days and 2 days prior to departure: 75% of package price

• 1 day prior to departure or no show:   100% of package price

• GIT (Groups): Cancellation of tours due to minimum number of participants will be advised 6 weeks before departure of the tour; in which case Diethelm Travel will offer an alternative tour of a similar standard or a full refund. Cancellation policy for GIT bookings will be advised separately case by case.

• HOTEL ONLY

• Between 29- 21 days before departure:  no charge

• Between 20 days and 15 days prior to departure: 60% of accommodation price

• Between 14 days and 0 days prior to departure: 100% of accommodation price

• Certain Hotels impose stricter cancellation policies which will be advised separately.
