DAY 8: Dalat – trai mat – Danang                                                                                                   (B/-/-)

EXCURSION TO TRAI MAT BY TRAIN

09:15 hrs: Depart from your hotel and transfer to Dalat train station. The building is a unique architectural work – combining European style with the design of steep roofed Vietnamese stilt houses, typical for the Central Highlands region. The original architecture and setting has been well preserved. On the platform, there is an old steam locomotive on display together with a piece of the cog rail used in mountainous areas to prevent the train from sliding downhill . The station was recognized as national heritage in 1981 and in 2004, seven kilometres of the Dalat-Trai Mat section was restored and put into operation for tourism purposes.

09:50 hrs: Departure to Trai Mat. The carriages have been restored to the old days touch. As the locomotive struggles though the Dalat hilly suburb, enjoy the spectacular view of greenhouses and flower gardens along the route.

10:15 hrs: Arrive at Trai Mat, walk to visit Linh Phuoc Pagoda which boasts great works of the local artisans with inlayed ceramics, glass pieces and a great bell tower, featuring one of the biggest cast bronze bells in Vietnam.

Return to Dalat by road. This road offers more scenic views of the city’s terraced vegetable fields. En route, you have the opportunity to visit Dabeco (Dalat Beverage Company) wine processing establishment. Join in a wine tasting, trying the various local wines and have a look at the wine production process (this visit is subject to working schedule of the factory).

Transfer to Dalat / Lien Khuong Airport for your flight to Danang. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel for check-in.

HOI AN ancient town

Many of the houses are constructed of rare timbers and decorated with lacquer panels engraved with Chinese characters and pillars carved with ornamental designs.

Transfer to Danang airport for your flight to Hanoi. Meet on arrival at Hanoi / Noi Bai airport and transfer to the hotel.

WATER PUPPET SHOW

Enjoy a water puppet performance. The Vietnamese traditional art of water puppetry has roots that date back to the 10th century when it originated in the Red River Delta area of northern Vietnam. The farmers in the region celebrated festivals and harvests by performing this unique art form. The puppets are made of wood and usually stand sixteen inches high, but can be as tall as three feet. Puppets are attached to a long bamboo pole and dipped in and out of the water by a person behind a rattan curtain.

Learning to manipulate the puppets is usually a tradition that is passed on as a family secret. It takes a great deal of skill and because the puppeteer’s hands are underwater it is easy for them to hide their methods. The fascinating part is that the central stage is below the water line, and the puppeteers stand in the waist-deep water. A rattan curtain hides them, but they can see the stage and the audience through the bamboo slats.
